Taubenberger presents proclamation at White House

City Councilman Al Taubenberger met with President Trump and honored the National Security Advisor, a Roxborough native.

Quite an honor: On Oct. 6, Philadelphia City Councilman Al Taubenberger traveled to the White House to present National Security Advisor Herbert Raymond “H.R.” McMaster with a proclamation and engraved Liberty Bell to honor McMaster for his decades of service.

City Councilman Al Taubenberger (R-at large) traveled to the White House to present a proclamation and engraved Liberty Bell to National Security Advisor Herbert Raymond “H.R.” McMaster, a Roxborough native.

McMaster gave Taubenberger a tour, and the councilman got to meet President Donald Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who is a senior adviser to the president.

Taubenberger introduced a resolution honoring McMaster for his decades of service to the United States. The resolution passed by voice vote, with only Democratic Councilwoman Helen Gym voting against it.

McMaster, 55, attended Norwood-Fontbonne Academy, a Catholic elementary school in Chestnut Hill, and Valley Forge Military Academy (class of 1980). He is a 1984 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy.

A lieutenant general in the Army, he served in the Gulf War and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was a top adviser to Army Gen. David Petraeus.

After Michael Flynn resigned as national security advisor just 24 days into the job, President Donald Trump nominated McMaster as his replacement.

McMaster was confirmed by the Senate in March by a vote of 86–10. Nine Democrats and independent Sen. Bernie Sanders voted against him. ••
