Upper Holmesburg Civic Association President Stan Cywinski proclaimed the group’s Oct. 4 Oktoberfest an unequivocal success as both a celebration of the civic group’s 10th anniversary and a much-needed fundraiser.
Like most strong alliances, residents of Upper Holmesburg unified as a result of a common enemy. And as is the case in many neighborhoods, the Upper Holmesburg folks saw misplaced development as the enemy.
The Upper Holmesburg Civic Association is planning to celebrate its 10th anniversary with a European-style fall festival that would double as a fundraiser for the group.
State Sen. Mike Stack has requested that Gov. Tom Corbett allocate funding from the state’s 2014 Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program toward the former site of the Liddonfield Homes.
The Upper Holmesburg Civic Association may join the effort to restrict the proliferation of digital billboards and their conventional counterparts, static billboards, throughout the city. The group may also take a stand against a proposal to post more advertising on the city’s unused public school buildings.
