Burholme Emergency Medical Service, 830 Bleigh Ave., recently dedicated its newest ambulance in memory of life members Charles and Catherine “Kitty” Myers.

The husband and wife, who lived on Tyson Avenue, dedicated many years of volunteer service to the squad, beginning in the 1960s.

Burholme EMS presented a plaque to Myers family members, and there is a plaque in the ambulance.

The advanced life support ambulance dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. Myers is a 2021 Ford E-350 that cost $150,000, with some equipment purchased separately. It’s been named Medic 96-1.

Established in 1933, the nonprofit Burholme EMS consists of 25 full- and part-time emergency medical technicians, advanced EMTs, paramedics and dispatchers, along with a volunteer board of directors. Its emergency service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Managing director Tim Hinchcliff said Burholme EMS works in collaboration with Northeast Community Ambulance, 4411 Rhawn St., and Rhawnhurst Bustleton Ambulance, 2044 Grant Ave. (at Clark Street). The nonprofits serve residential customers, retirement communities and urgent care facilities.

Hinchcliff describes Burholme EMS as both an ambulance service and an education resource. Indeed, the squad offers CPR classes and first aid training and can assist with automated external defibrillator (AED) purchases.
