St. Jerome students raising rainbow trout

St. Jerome Elementary School is taking part in the PA Trout in the Classroom project, which is made possible by a partnership between the Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited and the state Fish and Boat Commission.

St. Jerome thanks state Rep. Ed Neilson and his staff for providing the program information and coordinating the necessary resources.

The school has a 55-gallon aquarium set up in the STREAM Lab. The middle school students have been working to raise rainbow trout, which includes monitoring the water quality and seeing the eggs from hatching to maturity.

The St. Jerome students have been raising these fish for about three months.

On May 8, students will take a field trip to Fox Chase Farm to release the fish under the guidance of the SE Montgomery County Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
