When the 2014-15 school year begins roughly two months from now, a familiar face in the Frankford High School athletics community will be absent. Luckily for the Pioneers, another well-known individual will be stepping in.
Stand up for students
A former administrator at Northeast High School denied that he had sex with a 17-year-old girl student, but a Common Pleas Court jury saw differently on June 6, convicting the disgraced disciplinarian of child-abuse charges.
A former special-education teacher at a Mayfair grade school had sex repeatedly with a 14-year-old student in March and April, according to criminal charges filed by the District Attorney last week.
Not one more penny
Last summer, I started a program called Philly Play right here in the Northeast. I did so because I was concerned about both the lack of access and information surrounding active play and the growing rate of childhood obesity in our city. We held play-oriented events around the 6th District, hosted community conversations around play and health and ended with a block-long street festival for families.
