When Phillies right fielder Nick Castellanos caught a fly ball for the final out on Sunday, fans knew their destination: Frankford and Cottman avenues.

The Phillies won the best-of-seven National League Championship Series against the San Diego Padres, four games to one.

The victory sent the Phillies to the World Series for the first time since 2009.

Drivers honked horns near Frankford and Cottman while several thousand fans gathered in the street. Trash trucks blocked traffic along Frankford at Bleigh Avenue and Wellington Street and along Cottman Avenue at Leon Street and Erdrick Street.

Police personnel, including Commissioner Danielle Outlaw, were out in full force.

But fans were generally on their best behavior, singing the players’ anthem Dancing on My Own and celebrating with one another.

Donny Smith, executive director of the Mayfair Business Improvement District, was in the crowd and was happy to report that no incidents were reported and a good time was had by all. He thanked the Police Department and Department of Streets for their efforts.

The Phillies’ opponent in the World Series will be the Houston Astros.

The Astros finished the regular season 106-56, while the Phillies were 87-75.

In the playoffs, the Astros swept the Seattle Mariners in three games and New York Yankees in four.

The Phillies swept the St. Louis Cardinals in two games and beat the Atlanta Braves, four games to one, before defeating the Padres.

Fans at Frankford and Cottman chanted, “Four more wins.” Four more wins would give the Phillies their third World Series title. Previous championships came in 1980 and 2008.

Aaron Nola is expected to be the Phillies starting pitcher in game one, followed by Zack Wheeler in game two.

All World Series games begin at 8:03 p.m. and will be shown on Fox. The schedule is below:
• Game 1: Friday, Oct. 28: Phillies at Houston

• Game 2: Saturday, Oct. 29: Phillies at Houston
