After a long-delayed hearing on whether a Bustleton businessman may legally make dental retainers in a residentially zoned Haldeman Avenue property, members of the Zoning Board of Adjustment decided not to decide.
More than a dozen residents of the 6100 block of Hawthorne St. attended last week’s Mayfair Civic Association meeting to fight a new dollar store and auto parts store proposed for a nearby block of Frankford Avenue. Those neighbors also got a lesson on the sometimes puzzling dynamics of the city’s recently reworked Registered Community Organization regulations.
Contractors who submit permit applications to the Department of Licenses and Inspections will have to submit “tax clearance” forms and show they have insurance. Contractors also must show they have insurance coverage for general liability, workers compensation and automobile liability.
City residents who live in their own homes have only one month left to file for a Homestead Exemption. What is a big mystery is that tens of thousands of homeowners who are eligible for this significant tax break have failed to apply for it.
