Political talk down the shore

Party boss Bob Brady welcomed elected officials, ward leaders, candidates and others.

Former U.S. Rep. Bob Brady, longtime chairman of the Democratic City Committee, on Saturday celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Brady Bunch gathering in North Wildwood.

The party took place at the Inlet.

While 2021 is a quiet election year, many of the party faithful looked ahead to the 2022 congressional and state legislative campaigns and the 2023 mayoral race.

Councilwoman Cherelle Parker spent time with the 35th Ward crowd, including leader Bill Dolbow.

State Sen. John Sabatina Jr., a former assistant district attorney, was among those in attendance. Several judges who were scheduled to face retention votes in November are retiring, meaning the Democratic Party can select their replacements for the fall ballot, making them shoo-ins to join the bench.

Former U.S. Rep. Bob Brady cuts a cake commemorating 25 years of the Brady Bunch.

Sabatina is viewed as a likely replacement, though he said Saturday he has not been offered a slot. If that offer is made and accepted, it would come with a hefty pay raise.

If Sabatina is elected judge, he’d resign from the Senate at the end of December, setting up a special election, probably sometime in March. ••
