Recently on a trip that took me to Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia, I walked a small stretch of the Appalachian Trail. It made its way across the town and onto the towpath of an old canal toward faraway Maine. I learned that following the 2-inch-by-6-inch vertical rectangles that are painted white on trees, rocks and sign posts will keep you on the trail instead of lost in the woods. (I’m sharing this in case you are ever lost in the woods along the trail.)
November is Diabetes Awareness Month. Some years ago, I attended a series of lectures at a local hospital with a family member who had recently been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. The classes were taught by a nutritionist who gave advice and tips on eating the right foods to help keep blood-sugar levels from reaching extremes. It wasn’t, I found out, just about sugar.
Saints and begorrah, it’s St. Patrick’s Day! It’s time for leprechauns, fairies and rainbows, and a pot of gold. Mix shamrocks and shenanigans along with some green beer (oh no!), a little blarney, and you’ve got to have some fun, or craic (pronounced crack), as they say in Ireland.
