The Torresdale Branch Library’s Read and Roll summer literacy program reached a festive culmination on Aug. 1 with a bowling and pizza party for dozens of children at Thunderbird Lanes on Holme Avenue.

More than 100 local children took part in the multi-week program, which blended bowling with reading and literacy activities funded by the Free Library’s Strategic Initiatives Department and the federal government’s Read by 4 program.

City Councilman Bobby Henon highlighted the party by reading the children’s book Pete’s A Pizza to the young bowlers. Torresdale librarian Ann Hornbeck and her staff partnered with the Friends of Torresdale Library and the staff of Thunderbird Lanes to make summer reading and learning fun for the children. ••
