Orleans Technical Institute to host texting tournament

Orleans Technical Institute, 2770 Red Lion Road, will be hosting local high school students at the first Text for NCRA Scholarship Competition, a tournament-style texting competition on Feb. 18.

Sponsored by the National Court Reporters Association, students will go finger-to-finger in a contest of speed and accuracy.

Similar to court reporting, participants will work to transcribe a series of audio files onto their phones via text message. The winning student will walk away with a scholarship to attend the Court Reporting Program at Orleans Technical Institute provided by the National Court Reporters Association.

The Text for NCRA Scholarship Competition is being held in conjunction with NCRA’s National Court Reporting and Captioning Week, recognized Feb. 15–21.

“Court reporting is a career on the rise,” said Bruce Wartman, director of the Court Reporting Program at Orleans Tech. “High school students belong to a generation with plenty of knowledge in the technology field, making them ideal candidates to fill future job openings. They can undoubtedly succeed here, and we want to make that clear.”

For more information about the tournament, contact Bruce Wartman at 215–728–4422 or Bruce.Wartman@jevs.org
