The area around the intersection of Cottman and Bustleton avenues in Rhawnhurst will see a trove of commercial development in the coming months, including new stores and a medical office.
A Holy Redeemer Health System facility, a Raymour & Flanigan furniture store and a Taco Bell are among the newcomers slated to open in the neighborhood.
However, the future of the shuttered Northeast Turf Club at the Roosevelt Mall remains unclear.
Holy Redeemer is planning to convert a vacant building at the corner of Bustleton and Bleigh avenues into an office with physicians’ practices and diagnostics. A spokeswoman for the health system said they plan to open the new facility this fall.
Meanwhile, Raymour & Flanigan has acquired the former Toys R Us building at 2035 Cottman Ave. The toy store closed last year after the company was liquidated.
Crews are in the process of renovating the property at an estimated cost of $235,000, according to a building permit posted outside the store.
Representatives from Raymour & Flanigan could not be reached for comment about when the furniture retailer will open the new location.
In addition, a new Taco Bell is nearing completion on Bustleton Avenue near Shelmire Street next to the Dunkin’ Donuts. It is expected to open this spring, according to Kimco Realty, which owns the shopping center.
Change is also coming at the Roosevelt Mall, where the former Turf Club building is slated to be demolished. As previously reported by the Times, the betting parlor closed in December after 17 years in business.
A spokeswoman for Brixmor Property Group, the company that owns the mall, declined to reveal the site’s new tenant and did not comment on the timing of any potential construction.
The Department of Licenses & Inspections issued a demolition permit for the Turf Club on Jan. 28, according to city records. ••
