Authorities have released surveillance photos of the heist, which occurred at about 3 a.m. on Aug. 20 at 198 Tomlinson Road. The video shows several unidentified people walking eastbound on Tomlinson. One male left the group, ran across the street and pilfered the religious candelabrum from the yard of the synagogue and community center. The suspect then rejoined the group, which continued eastbound on foot.

Rabbi Solomon Isaacson said that the menorah had been donated to the congregation by a family in memory of a lost loved one. It has a monetary value of about $5,000. Isaacson hopes that it will be returned before Rosh Hashana, which begins at sundown on Oct. 2.

“It would be a tragedy not to have the menorah there for the holiday,” Isaacson said.
