We remember our veterans this time of year, and a special date comes to mind. Nov. 11, of course – the day World War I, the Great War, ended. In remembrance of all of our veterans, I’m sending a shoutout and a big “Thank You,” and hope you had a Happy Veterans Day.

My dad always called them Chinese Apples. I’m talking about pomegranates, the jeweled-looking fruit that makes its way to our markets from late fall through early winter. The pomegranate’s sparkly, ruby-red, gem-like seeds seemed so exotic to me way back when. They were a fascinating fruit, those little, edible jewels.
