The plaque was dedicated at Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 39 hall, 7229 Tulip St.

McCloskey headed Tacony’s 27th Police Athletic League from 1947–84.

About 75 of McCloskey’s family, friends, former players and coworkers were in attendance. State Sen. John Sabatina Jr. (D-5th dist.) also participated, as did retired police Lt. Vince Furlong, who was McCloskey’s commanding officer.

Ken Linneman, the fund’s vice president, addressed the crowd. He played for McCloskey and later supervised PAL for nine years as a member of the police department.

Sophia Sullivan sang the national anthem. The Rev. Joseph Farrell, pastor of Our Lady of Consolation Parish, blessed the plaque and offered a prayer.
