If you can believe it, some outsiders have the audacity to claim that Mayfair can be a bit lacking in the culture department from time to time, that basic principles of etiquette and civility, such as proper attire, are lost on neighborhood denizens.
The Mayfair Civic Association recently presented awards to the three winning families in the annual Mayfair Christmas Decoration Contest. Sixty neighborhood homeowners entered the contest. A panel of community leaders and businesspeople, including representatives from the Northeast Times, judged each decorated home on a scale of one to 12, representing the 12 days of Christmas.
The Mayfair Playground was recently renovated, including new jungle gyms, swings and sliding boards, as well as a climbing net.
On a sunny, sweltering early September afternoon in Mayfair, the adults with beads of sweat bubbling on their brows sought out slivers of shade. But the children frolicked seemingly immune to the oppressive heat.
