Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross, the Philadelphia Police Department’s second in command, has encountered more than a few hostile crowds in recent weeks. But the 7th Police District Advisory Council was anything but adverse when Ross addressed the Northeast community group on Jan. 15.
On Oct. 14, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives voted 195-0 to pass House Bill 2489, also known as the Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Registry in PA (SAFER PA), which was introduced by Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-170th dist.).
During the Independence Day holiday weekend, Pennsylvania State Police arrested 35 people for driving while under the influence and issued 932 traffic citations on highways in Philadelphia, Delaware and Montgomery counties.
The state Senate Transportation Committee last week held a hearing at the Pennsylvania Convention Center to consider legislation sponsored by Sen. Mike Stack that would allow Philadelphia to use automated cameras to enforce speed limits along Roosevelt Boulevard.
State police covering Philadelphia, Delaware and Montgomery counties reported that there were zero traffic fatalities in the territory during the Easter holiday enforcement period, but troopers issued 577 traffic citations, including 35 for driving while under the influence.
