A roadway speed bump caused a sudden jolt in Somerton when it popped up unexpectedly near the neighborhood’s SEPTA train station last month. But Streets Department Commissioner David Perri smoothed things over last week, announcing the removal of the bump.
During the Independence Day holiday weekend, Pennsylvania State Police arrested 35 people for driving while under the influence and issued 932 traffic citations on highways in Philadelphia, Delaware and Montgomery counties.
State police covering Philadelphia, Delaware and Montgomery counties reported that there were zero traffic fatalities in the territory during the Easter holiday enforcement period, but troopers issued 577 traffic citations, including 35 for driving while under the influence.
The state Senate Transportation Committee last week held a hearing at the Pennsylvania Convention Center to consider legislation sponsored by Sen. Mike Stack that would allow Philadelphia to use automated cameras to enforce speed limits along Roosevelt Boulevard.
