Cinco de Mayo (May 5) is more of a regional holiday in Mexico, and it recognizes the country’s victory at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican war. North of the border, the day is celebrated in many cities promoting the commercial interests of purveyors of Mexican food and beverages with parties, festivities and fiestas. It’s probably a bigger holiday in many United States cities than it is in Mexico, and Philadelphia is no exception. In fact, May 1-5 is Mexican Week here in Philly. So, it looks like the bars and restaurants have spoken.
