The jury in the priest sex abuse trial in Philadelphia sent a note to the judge this morning telling her that it had reached one verdict, but was a hung jury on all other charges.
Common Pleas Court Judge M. Teresa Sarmina told the jury to go back into deliberations and try some more. She also told the jurors, who have been deliberating for 12 days, that they should let her know if there was anything the court could do to help them achieve a verdict on other charges.
Monsignor William Lynn, 61, is accused of one count of conspiracy and two counts of endangering the welfare of children. The Rev. James Brennan is accused of one count of attempted rape of a suburban teenage boy and one count of endangering the welfare of children.Lynn served as secretary for clergy for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia from 1992 to 2004. He is the first church administrator in the nation to stand trial in connection with the sex abuse scandal.
