Kids don’t wait for ribbons to be cut when there’s new playground equipment to test out. A hour before the official, postponed-a-couple-times, grand reopening of the small park at Hedge and Plum streets in Frankford on July 9, the young clientele was up on the new gear, giving it some appreciative squeals of approval.
Frankford residents got a potpourri of information about local parks, recycling, a summer food program, politics and new trash collection rules at the June 26 meeting of the Northeast EPIC Stakeholders.
Danny Savage and Tomas Sanchez weren’t the only challenges confronting Tina Tartaglione in last week’s Democratic primary for her Pennsylvania Senate seat. Tartaglione’s obstacles also included her legendary political family’s past as well as a growing force considered by many as the city’s political future.

State Rep. Brendan Boyle on Tuesday won a surprisingly easy victory in the 13th Congressional District Democratic primary, declaring victory at about 10 p.m. at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 headquarters in the Far Northeast.
