The year flies by and its highlights tend to become hazy in our minds. With the rush of headlines spanning soldiers who died in combat to a career politician who turned criminal, the Northeast has seen better years.
Four years ago, Republican City Councilman Brian O’Neill faced a fairly stiff challenge from Democrat Sean McAleer, but the incumbent rolled to re-election with 58 percent of the vote despite Michael Nutter’s strength at the top of the ticket.
Whether a rift existed in City Council before the passage of new district boundaries last week is a matter of contention. But now that the vote is done, the verbal and political sparring may just be starting.
