Holmesburg Civic Association members and activists from neighboring Mayfair and Tacony last week criticized a plan by the city to purchase land at 7777-R State Road for the possible construction of a prison.
Two representatives of the Philadelphia Community Corps visited the Holmesburg Civic Association last week, promoting their idea of deconstructing, not demolishing, the estimated 40,000 to 60,000 abandoned, vacant or blighted structures in the city.
Philadelphia police may have captured the gunman who murdered three other men execution-style inside a house on the 4600 block of Vista St. on Jan. 10, although the department’s information office has not officially confirmed an arrest.
