    Students ‘extend school year’ this summer in Northeast

    Thousands of kids went to school this summer and participated in a special program that maintains school structure and helps focus on key parts of their education. In the Northeast, the “extended school year” program was hosted at Lincoln High, LaBrum Middle School and at Fels High School, where the kids got ice cream courtesy of a local radio station on Aug. 7, the last day of classes.


    Mayor Nutter declares a state of emergency in Philadelphia

    The declaration will take effect at 4 p.m. Sunday. Three emergency shelters will open at that time, including one at Fels High School, 5500 Langdon St., in Northeast Philadelphia. The mayor encouraged residents who live in flood-prone areas, including areas around Pennypack Creek, to move in with family and friends or go to a shelter.
