The Philadelphia Police Department has launched a new drunken-driving enforcement program that will continue throughout the remainder of 2014.
State Rep. Thomas Murt announced plans to sponsor legislation that will address underage drinking. His bill will allow police to administer a breath test to a minor before an arrest to determine if he or she has consumed alcohol.
Pennsylvania State Police arrested 23 motorists for drunk-driving in Philadelphia, Montgomery and Delaware counties during the Labor Day holiday period from Friday through Monday. Captain James P. Raykovitz, commanding officer of Troop K at 2201 Belmont Ave., reported that there were 79 vehicle crashes that resulted in 34 injuries, but no fatalities, during the period. Four of the crashes were alcohol-related.
