Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta on Monday headlined an Italian Americans for Trump rally at the president’s local campaign headquarters at 2100 Byberry Road.

State legislative candidates John Nungesser and Aaron Bashir were among the crowd, many of whom wore “Save Columbus” masks and said the Pledge of Allegiance and Hail Mary.

Barletta said Joe Biden disrespected Italians by referring to Columbus Day as “Indigenous People’s Day.” He described Donald Trump as the law-and-order and pro-life candidate who has improved health care for veterans and built a wall to secure the southern border.

Several people in the crowd called on Giuliani to move to Philadelphia and run for mayor. Giuliani said key issues include gun rights, freedom of religion and, in Pennsylvania, fracking. He is hopeful that Trump supporters are more enthusiastic and that voters will reject a Democratic Party that has gone “off the left cliff.”

Giuliani linked rising violent crime in big cities to district attorneys elected with the help of money from George Soros. Philadelphia has more murders in 2020 than New York, Giuliani said, despite having one-fifth of its population.

“You have a DA who should be in jail,” he said of Larry Krasner.

Giuliani, who takes hydroxychloroquine, credited Trump for shutting down travel from China and supplying more than enough masks, ventilators and hospital beds to address the coronavirus. He said Trump built a good economy before the pandemic and has been strong on foreign policy, especially with the killing of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani.

Giuliani believes Biden disqualified himself when he told a reporter that Americans don’t deserve to know his view on the possible packing of the Supreme Court. ••
