50 years of the Turkey Bowl

A traditional turkey bowl two hand-touch football game celebrated its 50th anniversary on Thanksgiving.

The big game, with the Gobbler Cup on the line, took place last Thursday, with the field set up not too far from Abraham Lincoln’s football stadium, where the Railsplitters were taking on rival Father Judge.

A half-century ago, the game started out in the driveway of the 3200 block of Teesdale St., with guys 12 to 16 years old squaring off.

Today, the kids and grandkids of the original players are among some of the players. ••
