    State police covering Philadelphia, Delaware and Montgomery counties reported that there were zero traffic fatalities in the territory during the Easter holiday enforcement period, but troopers issued 577 traffic citations, including 35 for driving while under the influence.

    Traffic deaths in Pennsylvania reach all-time low in 2013

    Traffic deaths on Pennsylvania roads reached an all-time low in 2013, according to statewide figures announced recently by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. There were 1,208 traffic deaths recorded last year, the fewest in a single year since recordkeeping began in 1928, PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch said in a printed statement. 


    One injured in Rhawnhurst house fire

    One person was injured in a Rhawnhurst apartment house fire early April 10. Capt. Clifford Gilliam said firefighters from Engine 18 were dispatched to the 8200 block of Roosevelt Boulevard at 1:11 a.m. and arrived there two minutes later to find flames coming from the basement of the three-story building.


    Hazardous waste to be collected

    Philadelphia residents will be able to dispose of their household hazardous waste on April 19 during the Streets Department’s Drop-Off Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 8401 State Road (State and Ashburner).
