Residents of East Torresdale spent more than two hours deliberating how to react to a local tavern owner’s proposal to expand his business. But by the end of an Aug. 11 meeting of the East Torresdale Civic Association, Kevin Goodchild got neighbors’ go-ahead to more than double the capacity of Maggie’s Waterfront Cafe.
Residents of Wissinoming have their very own civic association once again. About 40 neighborhood residents met the new leaders of the long-dormant community group last Wednesday night during an inaugural meeting at Lower Mayfair Playground.
The Northeast Philadelphia Hall of Fame last week announced its 2014 inductees. The newest inductees will be Stephen Decatur, Virginia Knauer, Pat Worthington Stopper, Chris Matthews and the Jewish Community Center Klein Branch. The announcement was made during a May 8 news conference at Holy Family University by Sister Francesca Onley, president of Holy Family, and City Councilman Dennis O’Brien.
