The celebrity judges were Municipal Court Judge Pat Dugan, an 82nd Airborne and U.S. Army JAG Corps veteran who heads veterans court and was emcee of the Veterans Day Parade earlier in the day; former state Rep. and Common Pleas Court Judge Chris Wogan, a former field artillery officer and retired Army JAG Corps veteran; and Police Chief Inspector Tony Boyle, a retired Air Force master sergeant.

Dugan, Wogan and Boyle gave Karcher 1,143 points out of a possible score of 1,200. Judging was done on texture, flavor, consistency and color.

Karcher also won the people’s choice award. Guests at Oxley paid $5 to taste the chili, with proceeds going to the local American Legion.

Oxley chaplain Bob Cummings and 5th District Commander Ed Manko presented Karcher and Albert Gannotta, the 100-year-old commander of Post 821, with a variety of prizes. ••
