Members of the organic, farm-fresh produce industry have been trying to establish a foothold in Northeast Philadelphia for years. Somerton’s Walker Lodge will be the site of one company’s newest attempt next spring.
Some of the 300 volunteers who swept through the Frankford business corridor gathered in the parking lot of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on the 4400 block of Frankford Avenue on Nov. 8 before descending on the Avenue to pick up 9,994 pounds of litter and debris. On the same day, at nearby Overington Park at Orthodox and Pilling, 26 volunteers cleaned up the green space and planted 100 crocuses and some daffodils. Mezalik Design Studio also made a new sign for the park, which went up on Nov. 8.
