All Star Labor Classic on Sunday

Six local high school senior basketball players are getting ready to play in the 37th annual All Star Labor Classic, the showcase of regional talents presented by the Philadelphia Building & Construction Trades Council. This year’s matchups between the city’s and suburbs’ best boys and girls players will take place Sunday, April 14, at Holy Family University.

The local all-stars are Greg Weiss (Archbishop Ryan), Laquan Byrd (Father Judge), Anthony Lilly (Father Judge), Leyshka Ruperto (Frankford), Meghan Colfer (Little Flower) and Meiara Staton (Franklin Towne).

Each player received a $500 college scholarship on Tuesday night at an awards dinner at Sprinkler Fitters Local 692.

The schedule for the All Star Labor Classic is as follows:

Noon: Labor All Stars vs. Media/Alumni All Stars

1:15 p.m.: City Girls vs. Suburban Girls

2:45 p.m.: City Boys vs. Suburban Boys

Mayor Cherelle Parker will toss up the opening jump ball in the Labor vs. Media/Alumni game.

Admission is free.

The building trades will be presenting a $207,050 check to their charity partner, the Superhero Project, which helps parents of prematurely born infants stay connected to their babies while they’re in hospital NICUs through its “Angel Eye Camera” technology.
