Organizing classical music events has become second nature to Mikhail Zorich. Now, he’s bringing his talents to Northeast Philadelphia.

Multicultural Arts Exchange is a nonprofit project run by Zorich with a mission to bring classical music to Philadelphia, with a specific focus on the Northeast. They create programs that feature classical, jazz and blues music, or a combination thereof, to highlight both local and internationally known artists.

“It’s become a thing I can’t live without,” Zorich said.

This year, the nonprofit hosted a concert at the Insectarium inspired by insects on July 14 with Groupmuse Philadelphia. Zorich has plans for it to become a regular event in the fall.

The nonprofit’s next endeavor is to introduce the Opera Cake series to the area. For three nights this year, Melody Restaurant at 11723 Bustleton Ave. will present dinner and a show in conjunction with Multicultural Arts Exchange. Each night will feature opera music with a different theme.

Evening one, themed Opera on Tap, will take place Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. Opera on Tap is a national movement of opera singers that operates on a local level. The night will feature four artists as well as a special menu and a family-friendly atmosphere. The lineup will feature opera stars Marcelle McGuirk, Gabriel Rebolla, Travis Lucas and Wesley Morgan. Tickets are $65 per person or $50 with a group.

Evening two will take place Oct. 13 with a haunted opera theme, and evening three on Dec. 8 will be centered around the holidays.

Zorich said one of the nonprofit’s main goals is to take music from all around the world and make it inclusive for everyone. There were 15 events last year. The focus is more on the series this year, and Zorich said he hopes to one day host a classic music festival in the Northeast.
