Accident claims life of bicyclist

The police Accident Investigation Division is investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian accident that took place on Friday, at about 2:56 a.m. on the 6800 block of Oxford Ave.

Police and a fire department medic unit responded to a 911 call. According to police, a 36-year-old man was riding a bicycle southbound on Oxford Avenue and disregarded a red signal, causing him to come in contact with a 2011 Dodge Dakota, which was crossing Oxford Avenue at Disston Street westbound with the green signal.

The driver of the Dakota remained at the scene for police arrival. The bicyclist was pronounced dead on the scene by the medic unit at 3:15 a.m.

DUI is not suspected. No video is available. No charges have been filed. ••
