Last summer, I started a program called Philly Play right here in the Northeast. I did so because I was concerned about both the lack of access and information surrounding active play and the growing rate of childhood obesity in our city. We held play-oriented events around the 6th District, hosted community conversations around play and health and ended with a block-long street festival for families.
State Rep. Brendan Boyle on Tuesday won a surprisingly easy victory in the 13th Congressional District Democratic primary, declaring victory at about 10 p.m. at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 headquarters in the Far Northeast.
Northeast voters will be going to the polls on Tuesday to nominate candidates for state representative, state senator, governor, lieutenant governor and the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Northeast Philadelphia Hall of Fame last week announced its 2014 inductees. The newest inductees will be Stephen Decatur, Virginia Knauer, Pat Worthington Stopper, Chris Matthews and the Jewish Community Center Klein Branch. The announcement was made during a May 8 news conference at Holy Family University by Sister Francesca Onley, president of Holy Family, and City Councilman Dennis O’Brien.
