Special concerts will make it a rock ’n’ roll Christmas

A special concert of rock ’n’ roll Christmas songs will be presented this Saturday and Sunday at Settlement Music School, 3745 Clarendon Ave.

Jim Lopardo of Sandbox Music Publishing in Tacony said the program of 28 songs performed by the 12-piece Sandbox Rock ’n’ Roll Orchestra will feature music from the 1950s to the present.

“Two years ago, I got together some local musicians and we did a CD of 14 songs,” Lopardo said.

They did the show live in Montgomery County last year, but decided they needed a bigger auditorium, so they’re bringing the expanded program to Settlement, Lopardo said.

A show highlight will be a recreation of the Andrews Sisters singing “Mele Kalikimaka,” the Hawaiian Christmas song. Another fun segment will be “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” sung Bruce Springsteen-style. There also will be an instrumental version of “Sleigh Ride.”

“We really do the ’50s through current,” Lopardo said. “It’s a family show.”

The show will be emceed by Bob Clark and Lopardo’s wife, Jean.

Vocalists dubbed The Snowbirds will be Giana Iatarola, 20, and Lopardo’s 22-year-old daughter, Tori.

Tickets are $20 at the door for adults, and $12 for kids and senior citizens, Lopardo said. There also will be a $50 friends and family four pack ticket, too, he said.

Showtimes are 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22. Call 215–718–9676 or visit www.sandboxmusicpublishing.com ••
