A Northeast native who practices chiropractic and holistic healthcare in Bucks County has joined the ranks of child advocates including Dr. Theodore Geisel (a.k.a. Dr. Seuss) and Dr. Benjamin Spock, as well as Nobel Prize winners Dr. Jonas Salk and Linus Pauling, as a recipient of the International Academy for Child Brain Development’s “Statuette with Pedestal” award for 2014.
When most people go to see their primary care physician, they will inevitably have a discussion on their cholesterol or lipid panel. This is a set of laboratory studies that includes cholesterol subtypes minimally including LDL, HDL and triglyceride cholesterol. Some doctors may choose to order more specialized testing that can include dozens of other cholesterol particle measurements. The overall goal of this type of testing is to help determine an individual’s overall risk for cardiovascular disease including heart attack, stroke and kidney disease.

City Councilman Bobby Henon has pledged to cover the cost of the initial phase of the community’s appeal seeking to bar a methadone clinic from opening on the Frankford Avenue commercial corridor, asking that they “send me a bill.”
The Holmesburg Civic Association and some State Road businesses have entered into an agreement with NorthEast Treatment Centers that will allow for a methadone clinic to open in the neighborhood. The agreement follows a recent court victory by NET, which plans to open a clinic at 7520 and 7550 State Road.
State Rep. Thomas Murt announced plans to sponsor legislation that will address underage drinking. His bill will allow police to administer a breath test to a minor before an arrest to determine if he or she has consumed alcohol.
Many in the East Kensington community said at a meeting last week that they are concerned about the effects a methadone facility could have on the surrounding neighborhood, especially if the facility increases the number of clients it serves.
