Burholme Civic visits Ryerss Museum and Library for May meeting

The Burholme Community Town Watch and Civic Association last week heard from 2nd Police District Lt. Ron Janka and community relations officer Mark Mroz.

Janka spoke of seven recent stolen automobiles, three of which had keys in the ignition.

Janka also mentioned that the investigation of a burglary at Pizza Roma is pointing to former employee. Police are looking for the individuals who stole a 12-year-old’s bike on the 2100 block of Cottman Ave. They are also looking for two black men who robbed a woman on the 7000 block of Leonard St. after she left a nightclub.

No arrests have been made in the robbery of an Ernie’s Pizza employee, who was delivering food to the 700 block of Hellerman St. Police believe the crime was a setup. Janka said that, while much of commerce has gone cashless, pizza delivery men have to make change.

“They’re an easy target,” he said.

The May 9 meeting took place at Ryerss Museum & Library, at 7370 Central Ave. in Burholme Park. The Victorian building is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is also a book drop-off slot. Admission and tours are free.

Linda Gaynor, an aide to City Councilman Brian O’Neill, invited the public to an e-cycling event on Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to noon outside the 7th Police District, Bustleton Avenue and Bowler Street.

The Burholme Community Town Watch and Civic Association will return to Wesley Enhanced Living, 7040 Oxford Ave., for its meeting on Thursday, June 13. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. ••
