Two state representatives, one current and one former, joined the Omagh Thunder and Somerton Spartans under-14 boys basketball teams for an international friendly basketball game held at Somerton on July 5.
Residents had every reason not to attend the June 10 meeting of the Somerton Civic Association. It was the group’s final monthly meeting before its annual summer recess. The agenda was pretty light. Rain was falling in buckets.
May was Older Americans Month — an annual opportunity to recognize senior citizens across the country while continuing to create a better quality of life for the elderly population — and it was capped off with a celebration for the oldest residents of the community.

Danny Savage and Tomas Sanchez weren’t the only challenges confronting Tina Tartaglione in last week’s Democratic primary for her Pennsylvania Senate seat. Tartaglione’s obstacles also included her legendary political family’s past as well as a growing force considered by many as the city’s political future.

State Rep. Brendan Boyle on Tuesday won a surprisingly easy victory in the 13th Congressional District Democratic primary, declaring victory at about 10 p.m. at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 headquarters in the Far Northeast.
