    Winter winners close book on basketball season

    We’ve officially entered the third week of March, and wouldn’t you know it: there’s still snow covering lawns and car windshields throughout the Delaware Valley. While everybody is impatiently waiting for spring to arrive, the (hopeful) final snowstorm of the year is a perfect time to take a final look back on an action-packed basketball season in the Northeast.

    Playoff hoops: Lincoln advances while N.E., New Foundations fall

    On Tuesday, the boys Public League basketball postseason began with a preliminary round of playoff contests. There were 10 total games, with the winners advancing to Thursday’s first round and the losers being eliminated. A couple of area teams played yesterday. Here’s how they fared:

    By all accounts, Blair Bowes and Raymond Fred had successful go-rounds for the Abraham Lincoln basketball team in 2012-13.

  • Fred poured in a career-high 29 points, and Lincoln needed every one of them, while the steady, shifty Bowes added 18 in support of his teammate in the Railsplitters’ critical 76-70 victory that put them right back in the mix in Division C.
