    Eating green on Earth Day

    The Earth neither moved nor stood still on April 22, 1970, but it did get a little help from its friends. University of Pennsylvania professor Ian McHarg, along with students and faculty of many area universities, as well as city planners, lawyers and other environmentally concerned people, teamed up to offer lectures and events that culminated in a rally at Fairmount Park’s Belmont Plateau. U.S. Sen. Edmund Muskie was the keynote speaker, but music and rock bands carried the tune of the day.
