The 67th edition of the Hero Thrill Show will take place at noon on Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Wells Fargo parking lot, Broad Street and Pattison Avenue.

The Hero Thrill Show raise funds for the post-high school education of survivors of police officers and firefighters who were killed in the line of duty. Jimmy Binns, who has led the Thrill Show nonprofit for 17 years, said all of the events recognize the heroism of police and fire personnel who sacrificed their lives for their communities.

The show will feature the Philadelphia Fire Department ladder salute and motorcycle procession of Hero Thrill Show participants and the Highway Patrol Motorcycle Drill Team, along with uniformed motorcycle officers from throughout the Delaware Valley. There will be remarks by city officials. The Hero Thrill Show grand marshals will be Andy and Teng Chan.

Andy Chan is a Philadelphia Highway Patrol officer, a 24-year veteran of the force who was severely injured in an accident as he headed to work on his motorcycle on Rhawn Street in January 2019. The Hero Thrill Show and the Highway Patrol Motorcycle Drill Team will also pay tribute to Highway Patrolman Brian Lorenzo, 48, who was killed by an impaired driver on I-95 while on duty in 2012.

Former and current Thrill Show scholarship beneficiaries and their families will be present at the event. The students are furthering their education through the assistance of full funding at mostly local colleges, universities and trade schools. Joining the Philadelphia Highway Patrol Motorcycle Drill Team in the lineup will be the Mounted Patrol Unit, Police and Fire Color Guard, the Bicycle Strike Force and Police K-9 Unit. On display will be crime-fighting equipment by the Aviation Unit, Bomb Squad, the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, The Marine Unit, Firearms Instruction, the Police Academy, SWAT and U.S. Homeland Security.

There will be fire apparatus, live fire-suppression and safety exhibitions performed by the Philadelphia Fire Department’s Special Operations Units. Families can enjoy a boardwalk-style carnival with amusements, games, face-painting and the antics of Philly’s team mascots.

Tickets are $15 apiece or $35 for families up to five people. They are available at the gates, at police and fire stations or at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/251599148827.
