Holy Family University to host ‘Life After Ferguson’ forum Jan. 29

Holy Family University will host a forum, Life After Ferguson: Where Do We Go From Here?, on Thursday, Jan. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the university’s Northeast Philadelphia campus.

The goal of the event is to identify strategies to move beyond the current state of racial tension and unrest that exists in our city and nation following recent events in Ferguson, Missouri, and New York City.

In an effort to promote meaningful healing through dialogue between members of law enforcement and the community, a panel will discuss questions posed to them about the best steps to bridge the gap between members of law enforcement and the community, particularly the black community.

Panelists will include Dr. Delores Jones-Brown, a professor of law, police science and criminal justice administration at John Jay College of Criminal Justice; Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross of the Philadelphia Police Department; Dr. Anita Foeman, professor of communication studies at West Chester University; Dr. Donald Brash, associate professor of historical theology and faculty director of the doctor of ministry program at the Palmer Theological Seminary; and Father Stephen Thorne, pastor of St. Martin de Porres Parish and former director of the Philadelphia Archdiocese’s Office of Black Catholics.

Dr. James Huber, an associate professor at Holy Family, will moderate.

Community members may submit questions for the panel online at www.holyfamily.edu/forum. Not all questions will be selected for the panel. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Visit the same web page to register. ••
