State Rep. Kevin Boyle on Dec. 5 reintroduced legislation to strengthen the state’s hate crimes law. Boyle’s bill would expand the offense of ethnic intimidation to include malicious intention against the actual or perceived ancestry, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, gender or gender identity of an individual or group of individuals.
Orleans Technical Institute, a nonprofit post-secondary career school at 2770 Red Lion Road, will hold an information session about its human services training program on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 10 a.m. The next class will begin in March.
Jurors returned to their talks this morning in the case against the Rev. Charles Engelhardt and former teacher Bernard Shero. They are accused of sexually abusing an altar boy at St. Jerome's parish in Northeast Philadelphia in the late 1990s.
The Rev. Andrew McCormick, who has served in Bridesburg and Port Richmond, now faces only misdemeanor charges after a former altar boy testified that McCormick sexually abused him. The district attorney's office, though, has filed an appeal.
