Capt. Adam Friedman, the recently appointed commander of the 8th Police District, was the official guest speaker for the Holme Circle Civic Association meeting last Wednesday, but Rocky Balboa stole the show.
Millbrook Civic Association board members won’t stand for election at the end of this month. Only the current board members were nominated during the association’s Oct. 28 session at the Calvary Athletic Association.
The Upper Holmesburg Civic Association may join the effort to restrict the proliferation of digital billboards and their conventional counterparts, static billboards, throughout the city. The group may also take a stand against a proposal to post more advertising on the city’s unused public school buildings.
State Rep. Ed Neilson joined members of the 8th Police District Advisory Council recently to recognize five members of the district as Officers of the Year. According to Ditchkofsky, the district commander, the officers were selected for their “consistent service” to the district, their excellent attendance record and teamwork.
Members of the 8th Police District Advisory Council recently visited the Delaware Valley Veterans Home on Southampton Road to honor the vets’ service to the United States by sponsoring a barbecue for them.
The annual citywide National Night Out celebration has been canceled this year due to a lack of funding, but several neighborhood-based events will be available to Northeast residents on Tuesday, Aug. 2.
