TBYN wants more cops, L&I staff

Take Back Your Neighborhood last week welcomed Anlin Wang, a community liaison for City Councilwoman Kendra Brooks, and representatives of the 2nd Police District.

Wang announced that Brooks, of the Working Families Party, will be Council’s new minority party leader. The next Council will consist of 14 Democrats, two members of the Working Families Party and one Republican.

Take Back Your Neighborhood members told Wang they would like to see Council appropriate more money for the police department and the Department of Licenses and Inspections, paying for it by eliminating the tax abatement on new construction. TBYN would like to team up with other civic associations to promote that agenda.

Meanwhile, Capt. Marc Metellus and community relations officer Mark Mroz addressed the group, thanking members for a donation that will help the 2nd district provide for the needy during the holidays.

As far as crime in the district, 37 cars were broken into in a recent two-week period. In the first few weeks of November, 26 Kias and Hyundais were stolen.

In other news, there will be a Northeast Region LIHEAP and Utility Clinic on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hub, 6434 Castor Ave. (at Hellerman Street). Bring your utility bills and statement of income to see what benefits might be available. Or, make an appointment at 215-609-1478.

Take Back Your Neighborhood will meet on Monday, Dec. 18, at 6:30 p.m. at Max Myers Recreation Center, 1601 Hellerman St. Bring food or drinks for a holiday celebration. ••
