Officer Boyle fundraiser on Nov. 29

The 18th annual Officer Daniel Boyle Athletic Program beef-and-beer fundraiser will be on Saturday, Nov. 29, from 8 p.m. to midnight at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5, 11630 Caroline Road.


Mayfair Holmesburg parade is Sunday

The 38th annual Mayfair Holmesburg Thanksgiving Parade will take place on Sunday, Nov. 23, at noon. The rain date is Nov. 30.


A savory celebration

A new Wawa with gas pumps opened at Grant Avenue and Academy Road. To celebrate, a ribbon-cutting presentation was held with local council members. A hoagie-building contest was held between the Fire Department’s Ladder 31 and the Police Department’s 8th district. The police department won, making 53 hoagies in three minutes. 


Donations needed for community fund

The Northeast Times is kicking off its 66th annual Eleanor Smylie Community Fund charitable effort.Since originating in 1949, the fund has helped thousands of local families during the Christmas season.The fund matches families in need with community members who can offer help. All money collected is used to buy gift cards to provide holiday dinners to those who are struggling to make ends meet.


Holy Family University to host annual 5K fundraiser

Holy Family University’s Habitat for Humanity Alternative Spring Break will hold its annual Running to Build: Turkey Trot 5K/ 1 Mile Fun Walk on Sunday, Nov. 23, at noon at the university’s campus at Frankford and Grant avenues.


Lynn case goes before Pa. Supreme Court

Lawyers for Monsignor William Lynn and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office on Tuesday argued their cases for and against reinstatement of the cleric’s historic 2012 child endangerment conviction before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in Harrisburg.


Jeanes Hospital distributing community grants

The Anna T. Jeanes Foundation is accepting applications for its 2014 community grants program, which is designed to provide funding for projects that promote the health, wellness and safety of communities in the hospital’s service areas. This year’s grants will be awarded up to $2,500.
