The future looks bright

The Joseph C. McCloskey Charitable Fund recently awarded its 2014 Tacony Youth Grant Award to the St. John Neumann Youth Group, based at Our Lady of Consolation Parish. The grant was for $1,000. It was presented to Michael Hogan Jr., the group founder and director. Bustleton Civic approves plan to relocate Dunkin’ Donuts

Members of the Greater Bustleton Civic League last week supported a plan to move a Dunkin’ Donuts shop from one part of Grant Plaza II to another.


A smashing success

Dunphy Ford, 7700 Frankford Ave., held its second annual Sledge Hammer Bash on Saturday. People used a sledgehammer to smash a used car painted with Dallas Cowboys colors.


A hometown favorite

The 38th annual Mayfair Holmesburg Thanksgiving Parade was held Sunday. Local bands, schools, businesses, dance groups, musicians and Mummers participated in the parade, which traveled south on Frankford Avenue. 


Donations needed for community fund

Thanksgiving hasn’t arrived yet, but the Northeast Times has already heard from residents requesting help this holiday season. The 66th annual Eleanor Smylie Community Fund has helped thousands of families during the Christmas season.
