Farm bill will help healthy initiatives

The U.S. Senate and House of Representatives have passed a $956.4 billion farm bill that includes money that Rep. Allyson Schwartz secured for a national Healthy Food Financing Initiative to bring jobs and affordable food retail options to urban and rural communities.

A fourth defendant pleaded guilty last week in an alleged ticket-fixing conspiracy at Philadelphia Traffic Court.


Picasso Project awards arts grants to 14 schools

The Picasso Project, a Public Citizens for Children and Youth mini grant program that brings arts education to schools that have very limited arts instruction, awarded more than $60,000 in grants to 14 Philadelphia schools, including Allen Stearne Elementary and Swenson Arts & Technology High School in Northeast Philadelphia.


Zoning to be discussed at East Torresdale Civic meeting

Two zoning issues will be on the agenda at the next monthly meeting of the East Torresdale Civic Association at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, at the Liberty Evangelical Free Church, Linden Avenue and Milnor Street.
