Nazareth Hospital’s Ticora Marable wins DAISY award

Nazareth Hospital’s Professional Practice Council recognized the hospital’s DAISY Award recipient for the fourth quarter of 2013: Ticora Marable, BSN, RN, of the Sixth Floor Transitional Care Unit. Ticora was presented with the award by Michael F. Beshel, MBA, MHA, BSN, RN-NE-BC, VP, Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer on Tuesday, Dec. 3.


City veterans group to meet

Philadelphia’s Veterans Advisory Commission has announced the dates for its quarterly meetings in 2014. The commission was established on Feb. 2, 2006, pursuant to a City Council resolution. It meets in City Council chambers, Room 400 of City Hall. Meetings will be held on Wednesdays, March 5, June 18, Sept. 10 and Dec. 10. All meetings begin at 2 p.m. ••


City will give out 50 college scholarships

City Councilman Brian O’Neill (R-10th dist.) announced that the city will sponsor 50 college scholarships for graduating high school seniors.


How hot is your chili?

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 Sports Association invites the public to participate in and attend its Chili Cook-Off on Sunday, Jan. 12, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., at the FOP’s 7C Lounge, 11630 Caroline Road.


Financial aid night Jan. 7

Parents of local high school juniors and seniors are invited to learn more about college and trade school financial aid during a session on Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the auditorium of St. Hubert High School, at Torresdale and Cottman avenues.

The most wonderful time of year

Residents and staffers of the Delaware Valley Veterans Home on Southampton Road had some special visitors on Dec. 19. A color guard stood at attention as Gov. Tom Corbett and his wife, Susan, entered to extend holiday greetings to veterans and hand out Christmas cards signed by the staff of the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
